Spring / Summer 2011

Spring is here with all it's glory! Beautiful flowers, rainy mornings and allergies! eee-gads! On my morning walks the hills around my home are filled with amazing colored flowers and beautifully painted skies. It truly a blessing to be able to appreciate and feel gratitude for all that I have and all that i've been given.

So, besides the sinus issues and sneezing from the pollen in the crisp air, I've been working on some fun designs for the upcoming seasons. Spring and summer always offer great inspiration as we get ready for warmer weather and more activities outside. My goal this season was to have many hands-free designs with fun colors that create a pop in your wardrobe.

A perfect example is the new WALLET PURSE offering an insertable credit card, bill holder which fits easily inside the wallet. There is also a zippered compartment on the backside to stash coins or reading glasses. Now this isn't just any wallet. Oh, no, no, no! This is a wallet that has a removable chain that can easily become a cross body-evening purse. How amazing is that???

I recently went to wine country in Sonoma Valley, California with my husband and travelled with this bitchen, little item! The weather was perfect, the wine was delicious and it was so useful to keep my receipts organized and lip glosses handy with this accessory! Although my allergies kicked up, I was able to stash my tissues safely inside for easy access!

GIVING BACK

It has been a bumping ride this thing called life. For the past few months I've been walloped with many challenges and have felt overwhelmed to say the least. However, I'm back and have an optimistic attitude! Was there another choice? I believe with all my heart that life must be dealt with on life's terms not mine. It's tough to come to grips with that way of looking at it when so much is being thrown at you.

Okay, now everyone who is reading this knows I've had a rough couple months and back ready to do business....

Hi everyone, my name is Stacie Joseph Dawes and welcome to Funkie Junk

I’ve always been eclectic … born and raised in LA, I was naturally drawn to unconventional fashion! I grew up near the beautiful beach of Marina Del Ray and began building my career in Hollywood. I worked in the television department at the Walt Disney Company for over 8 years until … the artist in me took over.

Unable to stop myself, I created paintings that were infused with gorgeous earth-tones and hues of blues and greens. Many pieces of my art sold, and my business was growing, but for some reason, unbeknownst to me, I was drawn to the world of leather and accessories.

It all began with belts …

Little did I know belts were in my blood. A few years after I started Funkie Junk, my daughter did a genealogy search, which revealed that my great, great grandfather was a belt-maker and had a shop in Warsaw, Poland in the late 1800s! Who knew?

Funkie Junk was an inspiration that combined my love of rich supple leathers with my passion for gemstones. I had no idea when I started creating my designs how fast Funkie Junk would take off! Worn by celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Melissa Ethridge and Jamie Foxx, Funkie Junk has been carried in 350 stores worldwide, including Barney’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstroms and has a large following in Tokyo, Japan. Funkie Junk exploded on the fashion scene 10 years ago and has been described by fashionistas as ‘rustic yet elegant’, consumers could not get enough!

The only problem was I missed my peeps! I longed to connect directly with gals who love my goods. So, once again, I found “I made plans and God laughed” … I had achieved my goal … national acclaim and a thriving business … but I felt somewhat unfulfilled.

Always one to follow my instincts, I’ve stopped distributing to department stores and boutiques to get back to my Funkie roots! I’m now having a blast, offering my bags, belts and accessories direct to the consumer!
